In this edition of the Judges’ Corner, I have decided to elaborate further on the Māori Freehold Land Registration Project that was substantively completed in 2010 with tidy up work still being completed. This was briefly mentioned in Chief Judge Wilson Isaac’s contribution to this forum.
It was not until October 2010 that the final Court case was completed. By that time the various applications and Court cases had been running for over six years, until they were finally concluded in our favour.
This project was completed in March 2010. One of the real benefits of this project is that now the majority of Māori land titles are defined as to survey, which will enable a full certificate of title or provisional certificate of title to be obtained.
