Share registers The Māori incorporation is required to establish a share register, an official record of the shareholders. The share register must list the shareholders’ names and addresses and the shares held by each shareholder.

While individual titles according to shareholding remains the means by which Māori freehold land is administered under Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, the Act has resulted in an improved approach to Māori aspirations for their land.

Former land owners become shareholders in the Incorporation rather than owners in the land.
