Having a conversation with your whānau about your whenua and whakapapa can be helpful before getting started. It is a good idea to ask them about:
What land blocks you might be an owner in
An accurate record of your whakapapa
How you became an owner or beneficiary to your whenua.
The Māori Land Court is conducting an inquiry to establish the successors to SILNA lands pursuant to Section 29, Te
Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 in accordance with an application filled by the Minister of Māori Affairs, currently under
application A20180009373.
Māori Land Court hearings are open to the public. However, if a sensitive matter is being discussed, the judge may decide to close the court sitting to the public.
In 2017, an application was made to the Māori Land Court to determine the
status of the land, the ownership of the land and the relative interests of the owners.
