te Kooti Whenua Māori ka taka mai ki raro i te
korowai o te Ture Whenua Māori 1993 (e kīia
nei i roto i tēnei pukapuka ko ‘te Ture’).
Pātaka Whenua is the name of the technology
and it accurately describes its purpose as a storage
house; for the record, for landowner stories and
for whakapapa which recount the tenuous and
often tumultuous journey that Māori have had
with their whenua and whānau.

The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
The unique relationship between Māori and whenua is
recognised by the MLC, and the records held by the Court
form an invaluable part of the whakapapa of all Māori people.
The MLC operates under the provisions of Te Ture Whenua
Māori Act 1993 (‘the Act’).
