Appeals – access to Māori land If a water service provider wants to enter Māori land to carry out infrastructure work, they must ask for the landowner’s permission in writing at least 30 working days before they plan to enter. If there is a disagreement about access to the land, there are provisions for an internal review, and for the water service provider or the landowner to appeal to the Māori Land Court.
They will complete an initial assessment of your needs and help you to a develop a plan.
You will also need to be clear what the plan is for building on the land, including who the housing is for.
They can delay whānau connection to whenua, and plans for developing land. Court processes can also be time consuming and costly.

From my perspective, the most sensible long term plan would be to encourage the retention of land interests in kin groups rather than individuals.
Trustee responsibilities can include: researching options for the whenua on behalf of owners attending regular trustee meetings to discuss and debate plans for the trust communicating with owners and organising hui for owners or trustees to discuss plans for the whenua visiting the whenua regularly to check on the wellbeing of the land, and working with people involved in the whenua or trust, such as a lessee, accountant, or management team.
