Any person who is entitled, or will be entitled, to a beneficial interest in the land is entitled to appear and to be heard at the Court hearing. Granting a vesting order Before granting a vesting order to transfer shares or interests, the Māori Land Court must be satisfied that: • any instruments of alienation have been executed and attested (ie signed and witnessed) in the manner required by the Rules of the Court.

The income usually goes to pay those concerned with the management of the land with the balance being used to awhi marae or to provide education grants and kaumatua grants. There are perhaps 20 or 30 large and successful trusts and incorporations, which are an exception to this.

• The trustees can only grant leases or occupation licences of the land for up to 14 years including any terms of renewal.

For example, an application for succession will require a death certificate, any grant of administration (probate 2 or letters of administration 3) or the original will, minutes of a whānau meeting if a whānau trust is required and consents of the proposed trustees.
