Chief Judge Fox has also been the presiding officer for the Waitangi Tribunal on the Aquaculture claims, the Te Arawa Mandate and Settlement claims, Central North Island Stage 1 claims, the Te Kōhanga Reo claims and the Te Rohe Pōtae claims.
Firstly, from 2014 to 2020 the Tribunal will complete the final six district inquiries and address the remaining historical claims not included in district inquiries, and progress kaupapa claims.
This is a unique undertaking as the jurisdiction of the Court stems from the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act, as opposed to TTWMA. The goal is to replace as many deceased persons on the list with living successors to enable meetings of successors to be called under Part 9 of TTWMA.
To assist the Court to process and deal with these proceedings, attach to your notice of intention to appear
a statement setting out your response to each of the claims made by the applicant.
4. The allocated hearing given in this document is tentative only.
Background Today, owners their whanau and hapu, the Māori Land Court staff and its judges have inherited a system of Māori land title that many have claimed to be inconsistent with Māori customary preferences.
