OCCUPATION ORDER:
An occupation order provides the right to build on a piece of
land owned by multiple owners (but does not grant a title of
ownership over that piece of land).

Māori land is deemed to be held ‘in common’ unless otherwise determined by the
Māori Land Court.

For these discussions, you should have a sketch plan of where you want to occupy or build, a calculation of how much land you'll need, and information about how your occupation or building could benefit the other owners.

authority of the trustees is required:
• the use of any building on the reservation
• the promotion or holding of a hui, meeting or other large
gathering of people
• the promotion or holding of a sports event, competition or
concert
• other activities or events as decided by the trustees.
