The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
From
6 February 2021
Simple and uncontested trust applications can be dealt with
by a Māori Land Court registrar, without a courthearing.
Benefits The time and costs associated with attending a courthearing
are removed when decided by a registrar.
The Court’s power is discretionary and it will generally require a hearing where there are issues
to be settled such as rulings on whāngai or other matters which may not be straight forward.
The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the application to be set down for a formal hearing
if the application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been determined.
