The working list of potential owners was updated at a sitting of the Māori Land Court in Te
Waipounamu on 26 April 2022, minute book 76 Te Waipounamu 246-311.
And it is not a new
phenomenon. Native Land Courtminutes from the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries often noted that within a few years of title having been
determined, there were difficulties in engaging with the majority of owners.
The deceased will have named the
executor in his/her will, and the appointment
of that person is confirmed by the High
Court. When an executor is confirmed by
the High Court, that Court issues probate in
his/her favour.
