The retiringtrustees shall be selected in the following order:
(a) any trustee who wishes toretire and does not offer to stand for re-election;
(b) the trustee who has been longest in office since his or her election, but as between
persons who were elected trustees on the same day the trusteetoretire is to be
determined by lot.

As an example of the way things have shifted, the Māori Land Court staff at Rotorua have 31 members whose ages range from early 20s through to being close toretirement.
