From 6 February 2021 The Māori Land Court can grant an occupation order to a beneficiary of a whānau trust.
The income usually goes to pay those concerned with the management of the land with the balance being used to awhi marae or to provide education grants and kaumatua grants. There are perhaps 20 or 30 large and successful trusts and incorporations, which are an exception to this.
That resource has not been lost and many project team members have been reintegrated back into the Māori Land Court administration. Third The project confirmed why it is important for the Māori Land Court to continue its current role given its historical and particular expertise in the administration of titles.
