OCCUPATIONORDER:
An occupationorder provides the right to build on a piece of
land owned by multiple owners (but does not grant a title of
ownership over that piece of land).
SUCCESSION
Succession to occupationorders can occur. The holder of an
occupationorder can leave the order by will to anyone who
may succeed to Māori land (providing they are among the
preferred classes of alienees22).
These provisions also apply to an occupationorder as if it
were a beneficial interest in Māori land, provided the person
owns a beneficial interest in the land to which the occupationorder applies and the Court is satisfied the person should
succeed to the occupationorder.
Also, having even numbers makes the annual
rotation easier – two each year.
