Where there are a large number of owners, obtaining unanimous consent to a mortgage
can be difficult or impossible. In those cases, a mortgage can be approved by:
(a) A resolution carried at a meeting of assembled owners per Part 9 of the Act; or
(b) Constituting a trust or incorporation over the land and using the administration
structure to approve the mortgage as set out above.

The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
While judges are acting as mediators, they will not be able to sit on the court proceeding related to that specific case. In future, the court will provide non-judicial mediators who have the right skills to resolve disputes over Māori land.
