Within te ao Māori, rangatiratanga can embody the authority of a rangatira (a Chief) but importantly also
that of the people, being the whānau (family), hapū (sub-tribe) and iwi (tribe).
For
example, for an application for succession, you’ll need a
death certificate, any grant of administration (grant of
probate2 or letters of administration3) or the original will,
minutes of awhānau meeting if awhānautrust is required,
and consents of the proposed trustees.
Te Hiku Iwi Development Trust
We have started working with Te Hiku Iwi
Development Trust, formed by Ngāi Takoto, Te
Apōuri, and Te Rarawa, on developing a joint
action plan.
Governance entities In the context in which I work, we have a range of governance entities, from trusts to incorporations, but no matter what the governance structure is - whether it is an ahu whenua trust, awhānautrust, a whenua tōpū trust, a pūtea trust, a kaitiaki trust, or an incorporation - key governance skills and capabilities are required.
tiaki i a ia.
Bringing people together meant some of the gaps
in the succession research could be filled by whānau knowledge, and errors corrected.
