As a court of record, we are responsible for the accurate documentation of the succession and management of Māori land. The legislation that enables us to perform this role is Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, which recognises the importance of Māori land as taonga-tuku-iho – of special significance to Māori passed down through generations.

This certification should be filed with an application for succession (when grant of administration held) on form 21, and replaces Schedule 1 of that form.

The working list of potential owners has been updated through applications to substitute deceased owners on the list. Succession applications are ongoing. People on this list have been determined to be entitled successors to the original beneficiaries of the land.
