When a hapū partition is created, the new titles are noted of that designation. if, at some later date, the hapū partition is upgraded to a full partition, then the council’s consent will be needed. if ownership of any of the land is sold or transferred outside of the hapū, the court can require that a portion of the land be set apart as a Māori reservation for the common use and benefit of the new Zealand people.
