Chief Judge Caren Fox and Pae Matua Steve Gunson are very happy to release the first Māori Land Court and Māori Appellate Court Annual Report, covering the period from Matariki 2022 – Matariki 2023.
Since the passing of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, our role is to: promote the retention of Māori land in the hands of its owners, whānau and hapū facilitate the occupation, development and use of Māori land ensure that decisions made about Māori land are fair and balanced taking into account the needs of all the owners and their beneficiaries.
There will be an acknowledgement of Judge Coxhead’s appointment as Deputy Chief Judge and details will be confirmed in due course. NEW JUDGE – NATHAN MILNER I am equally delighted to advise that Nathan Milner, of Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu, has been appointed as a new Judge of the Māori Land Court.
