More problematic was that in the early 1970s there had been further succession orders in relation to interests not dealt with in 1967.
Share transfers can be arranged directly with the Māori incorporation or by an order of the MLC. However, the MLC only deals with Māori incorporation share transfers where successions or trusts are concerned.

Why make this change? Succession to Māori land interests can be complex for whānau and for whāngai, and Māori land is often owned by members of different whānau (with different views on whāngai succession).

At 2025 Chief Judge’s MB 373-390 (4 February 2025) the Court made orders amending a succession order to Teone Karepe I or Hoani Karepe at 32 T 117-119 (30 May 1972) and cancelling a succession order to Porokuru Te Kiwi at 155 ROT MB 234 (30 November 1970).
Exceptions include: • a succession to further interests where there has been previous succession to the deceased person • vesting of lands in a minor who has turned 20 (provided that all appropriate documentary evidence is filed with the application).
