B2. Practical use of te reo Māori
Describe how you incorporate te reo Māori and traditional customary practices throughout the
mediation process such as karakia, mihimihi and waiata, in alignment with the tikanga of parties.
The vast majority of
trusts and incorporations function despite the fact that the engaged owners continue
to be a minority, often a mere 5 to 10% of the owners. This is the case for the largest
and most successful trusts and incorporations, such as the Tuaropaki Trust and
Mangatu Incorporation, right down to the smallest papakainga trusts.
Over the years, Piri has worked in service of her people in Whanganui including Awa FM, Te Oranganui Iwi Health Authority, Te Puna Matauranga o Whanganui and the Whanganui River Māori Trust Board.
In the last 10 years, Piri has worked at the Māori Land Court in Whanganui and has recently been added to the MLC Leadership Team.
