If you have a current application in the Māori Land Court that is being delayed by a dispute, you can ask for your application to be put on hold while you attempt to settle the dispute outside of court.

Who can prosecute the application Generally the applicant should be at the Court hearing but if he or she is unable to be there he/she can instruct a solicitor to attend, or arrange for another family member to attend.

Changing lawyer 23. If for whatever reason, an appointed lawyer can no longer act, then subject to a direction from the Court a new application is required for any replacement lawyer to be appointed. 24.

The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the application to be set down for a formal hearing if the application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been determined.
