Trustees:
• may not mortgage or sell the land
• may grant a lease or occupation licence
• must seek the MLC’s consent to any lease or occupation
licence.
These are:
• The land cannot be sold, gifted, exchanged,
or mortgaged.
• The trustees can only grant leases or
occupation licences of the land for up to 14
years including any terms of renewal.
The full story of the creation of the National Park
is, however, much longer and more complicated.

The jurisdiction of the Court is set out in Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, which empowers the
Court to hear matters relating to Māori Land and General Land owned by Māori with respect to (but
not limited to) the following:
Succession to, and the transfer of, interests in Māori Land;
The creation, review and enforcement of the obligations of trusts and incorporations;
The replacement, removal and appointment of trustees;
Alienation of Māori Land by way of lease, mortgage, easeme...
Use this form to seek Court confirmation of an instrument or agreement of sale or gift of Māori Land;
or to confirm a resolution of assembled owners to transfer Māori Land by way of sale or gift.
Where the
transaction is a gift the Court may dispense with the signature of the transferee where it is satisfied that the transferee is aware of, and agrees with, the
vesting.
