Legislative changes supporting housing initiatives Effective from Waitangi Day, 6 February 2021 Why make this change? The changes in the Act respond to demand to build papakāinga housing on Māori land for the purposes of supporting Māori into housing and whānau to return to their whenua.
The aim is to redress the disproportionately small number of Māori women in high positions in the legal profession. In February 2016 the coram for a sitting of the Māori Appellate Court was, for the first time, made up of Māori women judges, and women registry staff.
