Succession to Māori land is
intimately tied up with identity and whakapapa and thus adoption records may be essential to an
application for succession.
The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the applicationto be set down for a formal hearing
if the application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been determined.

(1) The area of land had no LINZ title, nor any current title in the Court’s records.

The Court worked by means of
written applications filed in advance by Māori
people, for example to have title to their land
investigated, to have it partitioned, for relative
ownerships to be determined, for equitable
owners to be added to the title, and so forth.
