Before you submit an application to the Court, make sure you have had a kōrero with your whānau.

If you have a current application in the Māori Land Court that is being delayed by a dispute, you can ask for your application to be put on hold while you attempt to settle the dispute outside of court.

Disputes can delay whānau connecting to and using whenua. Parties in a dispute can work with a mediator and include tikanga as a way to resolve the dispute outside of the courtroom.

  If you are a whānau or hapū member who did not submit the application but would like to speak in Court, you can file a ‘ Notice of intention to appear upon application ’.

Grounds for application: I am a party to a contract or arrangement relating to the proposed transfer; or I am the transferor/donor of the land or interest; or I am a trustee for a person entitled to the land or interest 3.

Dispute resolution service Effective from Waitangi Day, 6 February 2021 What do I need to do? If you want to make an application to the Māori Land Court or you have an application already in the Māori Land Court that is being delayed by a dispute, you can apply to use the dispute resolution service to attempt to settle the dispute outside of a court sitting.
