The Māori Land Court moved to a new database, Pātaka Whenua, in late May 2023 replacing the Māori Land Information System (MLIS).
Only roughly five percent of Aotearoa is now Māori land. Most Māori land is rural and much of it is remote.
In such circumstances the Māori Land Court will usually have no difficulty in granting a recommendation that such land be given reservation status.
