Training for trustees Training for trustees is a significant issue for the Court. In many instances the Court must choose between appointing inexperienced trustees to manage land or making no appointments at all.
Currently under the Act it is not possible to appoint a trustee or trustees to administer land in such circumstances because the Court is required to be satisfied that the owners “have had sufficient notice of the application and sufficient opportunity to discuss and consider it” per s 215(4)(a).

If your trust application is considered simple and uncontested, it can be handled by a registrar and will not require a formal court sitting.
If you want to make an application to the Māori Land Court or you have an application already in the Māori Land Court that is being delayed by a dispute, you can apply to use the dispute resolution service to attempt to settle the dispute outside of a court sitting.
