Bringing people together meant some of the gaps
in the succession research could be filled by whānau knowledge, and errors corrected.
A large hui was held in December 2023 in Motueka and in May 2024, Judge Reeves
conducted a site visit followed by a judicial conference at the Collingwood Area School.
Where the title to the land is vested in a Māori land trust (e.g. an Ahu Whenua Trust or aWhānauTrust) the trustees can approve a mortgage against the land subject to any
restrictions in the trust order (ss 147 and 150A of the Act)
