Trustees of pūtea trusts don’t have the power to vote. Voting for pūtea trusts is carried out by the owners who contributed shares to the trust.

Currently trustees of Māori land assume all of the duties and obligations of trustees at general law. This works extremely well. Nevertheless, the Law Commission recently proposed a new Trusts Act for all trusts which would tidy up any uncertainties or inconsistencies regarding trustee duties.

At least 21 days notice must be given for an annual general meeting and 14 days for any other meeting.

Notice 3.16 Notice of Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings (collectively called 'general meetings') will be a minimum of 21 days. 3.17 The notice will state the date, place and time when the general meeting will occur, and will outline the agenda.
