MĀORI LAND COURT HEARING
The person applying for a partition order will need to attend
a hearing to explain how partition will provide for better use
of the land.
Trustees:
• may not mortgage or sell the land
• may grant a lease or occupation licence
• must seek the MLC’s consent to any lease or occupation
licence.
GRANTING A LEASE
The Māori incorporation can grant a lease of any land it holds,
but any lease over Māori freehold land for a term of more
than 52 years must be agreed to by a resolution passed by
the shareholders owning at least 50 percent of shares and
approved by the MLC.
