Following an urgent Māori Land Court hearing held on Wednesday, 2 August 2023, the Court has directed that the five separate hui scheduled on Saturday, 5 August 2023 for the following Māori Reservations is CANCELLED:
Whakapoungakau No.7A Māori Reservation;
Whakapoungakau No.7B 2 Māori Reservation;
Whakapoungakau No.7C Māori Reservation;
Whakapoungakau No.7F Māori Reservation; and
Whakapoungakau No.7G Māori Reservation.
The Māori Land Court is notifying all owners of the above block about the following meeting of
assembled owners:

The South
Island Landless Natives Act 1906 was repealed in 1909 without those 53 people having
received their SILNA land.
The working list of potential owners was updated at a sitting of the Māori Land Court in Te
Waipounamu on 9 September 2021.

Register for the Wānaka Block 1895. The correct number of Original Grantees for the
Hāwea/Wānaka SILNA Block is 50.
The Minister of Māori Development has sought expressions of interest for the next Chief Judge of the Māori Land Court, and will in due course announce the appointment of the next Chief Judge and Chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal.
