The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
Kaitiaki trusts are related to interests in land, and are established to manage the affairs of
any owner who, due to their mental infirmity, minority, disability or imprisonment are
unable to manage their own affairs.
Your key duties as a trustee are to:
continue to grow the value of the land or shares without creating significant costs
protect the assets of the trust.

Te Kooti Whenua Māori – Māori Land Court (MLC) is the
New Zealand Court that hears matters relating to Māori
land.
If an owner with Māori Land interests is deceased, and a succession has not previously been dealt with by the Court or a
Registrar, you can use this form to seek a determination from the Court as to those persons entitled to a deceased’s
Māori Land interests and an order transferring the interests to those entitled.
TRANSFERRING SHARES TO TRUSTEES
Māori land shares can be transferred, by a vesting order, to a
trustee from a person whoowns, or is entitled toown, Māori
land shares.
