The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
We wish to acknowledge those who sup-
ported the idea from its inception, to Greg Shaw
from Te Tumu Paeroa who was able to join us
on the morning as a representative for the Māori
Trustee, Dr Charlotte Severne, to the managers at
Te Puni Kōkiri, and specifically Paula Rāwiri who
attended as the representative for Dave Samuels,
the Secretary of Māori Development, and of
course, to the Pae Matua of the Māori Land Court

In August 2020, the Government passed targeted
changes to Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 to simplify
the legal processes for owning, occupying and using
Māori land.

The purpose of the National Pänui / Te Pänui ä Motu is
to provide notice to interested parties of hearings being
conducted in, and applications received by, the Mäori Land
Court.
What was really interesting was to hear comments from cousins of mine, many of them older than me, who had heard similar stories during their lifetime but who had never, for whatever reason, been able to verify the fact that we still had some Māori land interests.
If an owner with Māori land interests is deceased, and probate, letters of administration or an election to administer
the estate have been granted by High Court, or is to be obtained, you can use this form to seek a determination from
the Court as to those persons entitled to a deceased’s Māori Land interests and an order transferring the interests to
those entitled.
The Trustee duties are the main set of rules that govern how the Trustees are to behave. They
are there to ensure that the Trust Land and Trust Property are managed and looked after by
the Trustees prudently and to ensure that they are used for the benefit of those who are entitled
to benefit, namely the Beneficial Owners.
