Rogan in the Rangitāne iwi on 8 September
1870. But this was understood at the time to be
temporary.
Held annually at Tūrangawaewae Marae in
Ngāruawāhia, it features pōwhiri, kawe mate,
mihimihi, kōrerorero, kai, kapa haka, and sports.
The event attracts thousands of attendees,
including international royalty and dignitaries.
