Te Kooti Whenua Māori – MāoriLand Court
You do not need to register in Pātaka Whenua to be able to access information or make an application or enquiry.
Use this form when transferring interests inMāoriLand by sale or gift between owners in the same block, owners and
their children or owners and any other member of the preferred class of alienee.
Today Māori freehold land comprises a little over 1.4 million hectares – that is, approximately 5.5% of New Zealand’s land mass. 12% of the North Island is Māoriland, including about 23% of the landin the Waiariki district, 18% in the Tairāwhiti district and 28% in the Aotea district.
Use this form to apply to the Court for an order vesting part or all of any MāoriLand or General Land owned by Māoriin an owner or a person entitled to succeed to an owner for the purpose of a house site or to confirm an existing house
site (including a house that has already been built and is located on the land).

Accessing Pātaka Whenua
Step 1
In your web browser, visit the MāoriLand Court website www.māorilandcourt.govt.nz and click
the green tab in the top right area labelled“Pātaka Whenua – our online portal”.
A mortgage or loan may be acquired by:
the sole owner of a Māorilandblock
all the owners of a Māorilandblock acting together
the trustees of a Māorilandblock who are empowered to raise finance against the block, or
a Māori Incorporation which holds Māoriland.
