In Pātaka Whenua, landowners can find information about their whenua, search the court record, and apply to the court directly online. “The launch of Pātaka Whenua is a huge milestone for Te Kooti Whenua Māori,” says Māori Land Court Pae Matua Steve Gunson.
Freehold titles are often divided by partition order.
The land retains the status of Māori land. The status of the land will continue to
be Māori land unless and until the Māori Land Court makes an order changing the
status of the land.
It is
tūrangawaewae – the place where we come from,
the place we belong to, the place we stand.
As a court of record, the Māori Land Court is
responsible for ensuring the accurate documenta-
tion of Māori land succession and management.
