This paper brought together over two years of research and preliminary consultation with the Ministryof Health (which administers the Burial and Cremation Act 1964), local authorities, the cemetery and funeral sector, experts in Māori customary law and representatives of various ethnic communities.
In addition, in February 2013 during the
course of the review, the Ministry for Primary Industries released a further report
prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers: Growing the Productive Base of Māori
Freehold Land (2013).
And speaking of the Supreme Court, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the recent appointment ofJustice Joe Williams to the Supreme Court bench.
