Evidence and decisions
are recorded in a separate minutebook series.
• Appellate Court: Established as the Native
Appellate Court in 1894, the (now) Māori
Appellate Court has its own minutebook series
Māori
became very used to the Court and its methods
of hearing cases and taking evidence. The Court
recorded its evidence and judgments in large
leather-bound folio books, the ‘MinuteBooks’,
which today form a vast record of the Court’s
proceedings.
TIP: Searching for the Minute when you have found the Order.
If you have found an order you can copy the minutebook reference to search for the minute in the document
search.
For
example, if you are looking for a Court minute, you might enter a minutebook reference such as
23 Tākitimu MB 116 or 23 TKT 116 in the Search keywords field.
Pātaka Whenua is the online portal that holds the Māori Land Court electronic record, which includes minutes and orders. In Pātaka Whenua you can search and access Māori land information, make an enquiry and file an application from anywhere at any time.
