WHAT IS THIS FORM FOR?
Use this form to file an application to the Chief Judge of the Māori Land Court to exercise their power under
section 44 of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 to correct a mistake, error or omission on the part of the Court or
in the presentation of the facts of a case to the Court.
An application form based on the existing form for successions has been modified for the purposes of SILNA determinations, and individual applications are linked to a central file to ensure consistency.
You can appeal a Māori Land Court decision about access to the Māori Appellate Court by filing in a notice of appeal form (Form 13) stating the appeal is made under section 171 of the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025.
The Treaty of Waitangi, signed in 1840 between Māori and the Crown, is the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Treaty provides that in exchange for the grant of kawanatanga (governance) to the British Crown, Māori people (the indigenous people of New Zealand) were guaranteed rangatiratanga (autonomy) in relation to their land and other precious resources, as well as the rights of British citizens.
