For Māori, good leadership depended upon how well those leaders responded to their people and how
well they were able to protect them and their whenua (lands).
You can bring whānau with you to court to support you and your application. If you are a whānau or hapū member who did not submit the application but would like to speak in Court, you can file a ‘ Notice of intention to appearuponapplication ’.
But this was understood at the time to be
temporary. The applicants said that they had
‘agreed to dispose of this land to the Pakehas’
and a few days later the block was reallocated
by the Court to ten named owners.
You must file your notice of intention to appear in the Court, and also
serve it on the applicant at the address for service given in the attached application, within 14 days after
the date on which you are served with this notice.

The Court may, on considering your notification, arrange for the application to be set down for a formal hearing
if the application has yet to be determined or for a rehearing if the application has already been determined.
ADDRESSING GRIEVANCES
6.1 If any Trustee or Beneficiary is aggrieved by a decision, action or omission of the
Trustees ("Applicant"), that person may first give written notice of the grievance to the
Trustees.
6.2 If the Applicant's grievance is not satisfactorily addressed within a reasonable period of
time, the Applicant may in writing, notify the Trustees of his or her intention to have his
or her grievance referred to a general meeting of the...
