We have trusts and incorporations worth in excess of $100 million. For example: Tuaropaki - $667million, Lake Taupo Forest - $165million, PKW Incorporation - $162million, The Proprietors of Atihau-Whanganui - $178million, to name but a few.
Perhaps it is appropriate that, exactly 100 years after the first Victoria graduate was appointed as a Judge of the Native Land Court, I am here today speaking as another VUW graduate appointed to that Court. 1 But enough about the Court.
This problem has been recognised for well over 100 years and there is no immediate cure. In the early 20th Century consolidation was seen as the answer.
