Of the approximately 2.3 million ownership interests in Māori land, anecdotal evidence indicates that about half of these interests are held by deceased persons; many landinterests are owned by the same person under multiple names; and many owners live far from their land and, in some cases, do not know they are owners of Māori land at all.
Use this form to request a confirmed search of interests that may be held in the name of any deceased
person who may have interests in Māori Freehold Land.

Applications should be lodged with the Registrar in the Māori Land Court District in which some or all of the lands or the subject matter
of the application is located.
Where an owner has a life interest or is a joint tenant in Māori Land you can use this form to transfer those interests
to the beneficiaries (remainderman) or the other party to a joint tenancy where the life/joint tenant has passed away,
wishes to surrender their interests or the life tenant has remarried or entered into a civil union or de facto relationship.
