Procedure for the Court hearing
As the applicant, you need to report to a
Court officer at the hearing so that the Court
is aware that the applicant is present.
Chief Judge Caren Fox and resident judges, Judge Wilson Isaac and Judge Nathan Milner, were joined by Chief District Court Judge Hemi Taumaunu, and other members of the Māori Land Court Bench for a special sitting that followed the opening ceremony.
(f) The mediation (regardless of whether the mediator is appointed by the parties
or the Court) will be held in accordance with the Māori Land Court mediation
process, rules and/or protocols as set out in Part 3A of the Act and by any
specific rules of the Māori Land Courtfor conducting mediations.

Te Kooti Whenua Māori – Māori Land Court (MLC) is the
New Zealand Court that hears matters relating to Māori
land.
Succession is confirmed by a judge or registrar, and the whakapapa to land and landowners become part of the permanent court record. Once succession has taken place, you are a kaitiaki of the whenua and it is now your responsibility to care for and protect the land for generations to come.
