HOW TO FILE AND COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION FORM
There is no fee for this type of application.
You must provide all information required on
the form before filing it with a Māori Land Court
office.
In some cases a trust order or regulation will allow a trustee to receive reasonable reimbursement for expenses they incur in their role as a trustee – they may also provide that a meeting fee or honoraria be paid. Any meeting fees or honoraria need to be approved by us so we can ensure that you have the broad support of your beneficiaries or shareholders, and that the business of the trust can afford to make such payments.
Since the Act’s inception over 1500 ahu whenua trusts have been created
(and only a few terminated). Invariably, those new trusts have been initiated by the
engaged owners who are in the minority.
The completed application, with the meeting’s
minutes and the application fee, should be sent to the MLC.
COURT ORDER
The MLC will conduct a hearing about the application.
In Pātaka Whenua, you can find information about your whenua, search the court record, make an application or enquiry online and pay the application filing fee. And you can do that at any time of the day or night from wherever you are in the world.
Whānau who agree to enter mediation to resolve disputes can do so out of court, pay no filing fee and can practice the tikanga of your whānau and hapū in that mediation.

This information helps us to find the correct records relating to your whānau and whenua so we can make sure the land is being transferred to the right people.
An application fee of $68 will need to be paid before your application can be accepted (except for applications where you are seeking to apply for further interests of a person to whom you have already succeeded, which costs $23).
