The Māori Land Court has released an updated working list of potential owners entitled to the
Hāwea/Wānaka Substitute Land (Section 2 of 5 Block XIV Lower Wanaka Survey District)
under Section 15 of the Ngāi Tahu Deed of Settlement 1997.
If you wish to appear you should contact the Court and file a Notice of Intention to Appear on Form 5 and serve a copy
on the applicant. This will assist the Court in dealing with the hearing and enable it to contact you over the hearing

This working list is comprised of successors to the 50 original beneficiaries who were
allocated land between Lakes Hāwea and Wānaka (‘The Neck’) under the ‘SILNA’ scheme.
The South Island Landless Natives Act 1906 was repealed in 1909 without those 50 people
having received their SILNA land.
