Māori Land Court Judgment Delivery
A guide to the process by which parties to proceedings before the court may obtain information about the status of any reserved decision, and for information relating to outstanding judgments.
Interest based trusts hold interests (or shares in Māori land blocks, while ‘land based’ trusts may manage a Māori land block or blocks on behalf of landowners. A Maori Reservation is a special type of trust that sets aside land (Māori or general land) for a wide variety of community purposes.
The Crown purchase agents had promised that Ngāi Tahu would be left with ‘ample reserves’ to live on. That was not the case and Māori in the South Island were left without land and without sufficient resources to take care of themselves and their whānau.
