Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (the Act) sets out the full authority, power and limitations of the Māori Land Court and the Māori Appellate Court.
In July 2019, the Government passed the Trusts Act 2019
(replacing the Trustee Act 1956). This new Act sets out
the core principles and default rules for trusts, including
trusts created under Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.
The MLC operates under the provisions of Te Ture Whenua
Māori Act 1993 (‘the Act’).
Trustees1 are bound by Te Ture Whenua Māori Act and the
Trusts Act 2019.
Section 19 of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (the Act)
provides jurisdiction for the Māori Land Court to grant
both permanent and interim injunctions (Te Ture
Whenua Māori Act 1993, s 19).
