The kaupapa I have been asked to address is “the Law, my journey for our people”. This seemed to be an invitation for personal reflection on my career and aspirations for our people, so that is how I have approached my task this morning.
I / We seek financial assistance from the Māori Land Court Special Aid Fund for the following purposes.
The transfer is to be: by way of gift by way of sale for the price of $ 2. Grounds for application: I am a party to a contract or arrangement relating to the proposed transfer; or I am the transferor/donor of the land or interest; or I am a trustee for a person entitled to the land or interest 3.
As for incorporations, the Act provides that every Māori incorporation holds the land and assets “on trust” for the incorporated owners in proportion to their several interests in the land (s 250(4)).

In my experience this land does not exist! One hundred years ago this misconception was responsible for the Crown purchasing much of Te Urewera lands.
You will note in figure 1, the miniscule scale of the rangatiratanga sphere. That, from my perspective, has been the position in New Zealand for many years and to the present day.
