This guide covers two ways to search for a block in the Pātaka Whenua online portal:
• using the Search menu to find a block (page 2),
• locating it visually with the Block Map (page 4).

Searching Māori Land Court records
Before a search, get as much information about the
deceased as possible.
You can search the database using the following categories:
• Block
• Document
• Management Structure
• Ownership
Search by Block
You can use the block search option if you know either the block name, block ID, district, land status type, state, LINZ
title reference, or a combination of the options.
Searching with
only Block District, Ownership Category, or Ownership Type without a name or ID may produce a
large number of search results.

1.1 After logging into Pātaka Whenua as a registered user, on the left side click “Search” then “Block” – this will
take you to the Block Search
1.2 In the “Block Name” field, start typing the name of the block.
You can submit your application online in Pātaka Whenua. You can download and edit these PDF forms for the Māori Land Court and the Māori Appellate Court applications and email or mail them to us.
Information from Māori LandOnline also provides the names of various trustees of blocks in which we hold interests and contact has been made with some of them.
