In 2017 an article in Te Karaka , Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu’s on-line magazine, noted: While work is almost complete on identifying successors for the Hāwea-Wānaka block, minimal mahi has been done for the Toitoi block and almost nothing for the remaining two blocks.
Administration The interests that are within our whānau trust are relatively small. They are in blocks which are situated in the Otorohanga area, around Taumarunui, blocks adjoining the Whanganui River, shares in the Morikaunui and Atihaunui Incorporations and blocks in the Marton area.
The primary purpose of both meetings will be to discuss:
• The Mouri Tūroa project and opportunities available for owners of the above blocks;
• Options to enable Mouri Tūroa to complete the proposed work, including but not restricted to:
o A limited powers Ahu Whenua Trust over some or all of the above clusters of blocks,
and election of trustee(s);
o The appointment of an agent to represent the owners of some or all of the above
clusters of blocks;
o A full powers...
In some cases, there are hundreds of owners for one block
or title¹. When an owner dies, it’s important to transfer
their interests to the person or people entitled to receive
those interests – the successors².
